White Mountains Attractions Welcomes a New Major Attraction and Prepares for a Summer of Celebration

After a spring filled with late season snow, the White Mountains region is ready for a summer of celebration and family fun.

Charyl Reardon, President of White Mountains Attractions Association (WMAA) in North Woodstock, NH, noted “in the summer of 2023, we welcomed approximately 4 million visitors to our region from across the country and around the world. Last year’s rainy weather did not deter our Major Attractions and local businesses from offering the memorable experiences that keep our guests coming back year after year. Our outlook for this summer is sunny, rain or shine, and we can’t wait to welcome our visitors and celebrate what is new throughout the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Bretton Woods Skyway GondolaThe White Mountains region is home to 16 iconic Major Attractions, and WMAA is pleased to announce a new addition to this roster: the Bretton Woods Skyway Gondola. Reardon continued, “the Omni Mount Washington Resort, home to, the Bretton Woods Skyway Gondola is a vibrant, world-class resort for all seasons. From its outstanding ski trails in the winter to the scenic gondola, canopy tours, biking, golfing, and more that make the summer season so spectacular, we are thrilled to welcome Bretton Woods as one of our Major Attractions in the White Mountains.

Craig Clemmer, Director of Sales & Marketing at the Omni Mount Washington Resort, echoed Reardon’s sentiment, adding “White Mountains Attractions has been a great partner promoting the region for decades, and we are pleased to join such a dynamic and impactful organization.

In addition to this exciting news, several of the region’s premier attractions are celebrating landmark anniversaries and new upgrades to their facilities.

Moo Lagoon at Story LandStory Land in Glen, NH is excited to announce the opening of Moo Lagoon this summer, a new farm-tastic fun waterpark with slides and interactive water features for all ages. Amenities like the new Bath House, Barn Yard Pizza, and The Stock Yard retail stand will provide guests with a fully immersive, all-moo experience. In conjunction with the opening of Moo Lagoon, Story Land is also celebrating its 70th anniversary as the place where fantasy lives and families have fun.

Midnight Flyer at Santa's VillageFor summer 2024, Santa’s Village in Jefferson, NH welcomes a new ride to its repertoire: the family-friendly Midnight Flyer. This highly anticipated rollercoaster will take the place of Rudy’s Rapid Transit, which was retired in the fall of 2023. Aboard the Midnight Flyer, riders will enjoy a thrilling ride that mimics the feel of riding with reindeer aboard Santa’s own sleigh, complete with a Northern-Lights inspired green track. The firm opening date for the Midnight Flyer rollercoaster will be available soon.

In other exciting news, the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln, NH was recently acquired by Patriot Rail out of Jacksonville, FL. Under this new ownership comes a fresh look and an updated name: the Granite State Scenic Railway. Visitors are invited to hop aboard and enjoy the Granite State Scenic Railway’s classic scenic train excursions along the banks of the Pemigewasset River starting Mother’s Day weekend.

At Marshfield Station, NH, the Mount Washington Cog Railway is celebrating its own milestone anniversary: 155 Years of Innovation. The Cog will be posting monthly excerpts from historian Tim Lewis’ The Mount Washington Cog Railway – The Jitney Years on its website to commemorate this momentous anniversary of the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway. On September 14th, 2024, the summer season will culminate in a bash including guest speakers, fireworks, steam train rides, and more. Visit TheCog.com for the latest information.

In Lincoln, NH, Clark’s Bears is set to open Memorial Day Weekend with their two growing bear cubs, Darla and Hildie, serving as highlights of their famous Bear Show.

In addition to the excitement of the upcoming tourist season, White Mountains Attractions is also proud to announce the mid-May release of our new attraction and destination highlight videos set to premier on VisitWhiteMountains.com and at the White Mountains Visitor Center in North Woodstock, NH. These videos, produced in partnership with DVISION Media out of North Conway, will give visitors and locals a glimpse at what makes the Major Attractions in the White Mountains a must-visit for generations of guests.
