New York Attractions Given the Green Light to Reopen

With the Governor’s announcement last week, New York’s indoor attractions and outdoor amusement and water parks will reopen in the coming weeks.

“We are pleased to have been able to work with the Governor’s administration on getting this accomplished before the traditional start of the season,” said Eric Anderson, president of NEAAPA. “It will be great to see our members operating again, including indoor attractions.”

“We are especially pleased and wish to thank Governor Cuomo and his staff for their willingness to learn the intimate details of our business, how we keep people safe every day and what it takes to get open each year.  Their efforts, precautions and desire to get our industry going again were key in establishing our return in the 2021 season,” said Anderson.

Some of the key points of the reopening guidance will include a 33 percent capacity limit for outdoor amusement and water parks and 25 percent capacity for indoor attractions, along with face coverings and social distancing for all guests and staff.

NEAAPA and its members will continue working with the Governor’s Office until the guidelines have been published.

COVID-19 Relief Needed to Save the Attractions Industry

Congress returned to Capitol Hill this week, and the Senate will take up consideration of the President’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief package.

House Committees voted on provisions under their jurisdiction last week and the House Budget Committee is expected to put together committee all of the passed bills into a final bill later this week so that the House can vote on the bill next week when they return to DC. The goal is to vote on a bill into law by March 14, when unemployment benefits expire.

The increase in federal minimum wage is also a shaking up to be a huge battle in the evenly divided Senate. It is imperative that your elected officials hear from you as to what relief measures are needed for your businesses and how a $15 minimum wage increase tied to COVID relief legislation could impact your business operations.

IAAPA has provided a prewritten script of industry needs. You are able to edit the script to add your own personal touch.
