Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, RI will officially open its eagerly awaited exhibit – Faces of the Rainforest - on Thursday, November 29.  There will be a 9:30 am press conference and ribbon cutting prior to the public opening. “It is with great excitement that we announce today the opening of this magnificent new exhibit, providing all our guests with the opportunity to experience the South American Rainforest here in Rhode Island,” said Dr. Jeremy Goodman, executive director of Roger Williams Park Zoo.  Additionally, Goodman stated that on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2, members only will have the opportunity to see the rainforest from 9:00 – 10:00 am before the Zoo opens to the public at 10:00 am.
“We began this project in November 2016 and have watched our plans become reality.  We know many of our guests watched as we went from a very active construction site to the beautiful building we open today,” said Goodman.
“I am so thrilled that visitors will have the opportunity to experience a free-flying aviary, get close to a number of species, and truly learn about the indigenous monkeys, birds, amphibians, and reptiles of the Amazon Rainforest,” adds Goodman.
Faces of the Rainforest is the first major project in phase one of a twenty-year master plan originally unveiled in 2015.  The Zoo received initial funding for this project as part of the Clean Water, Open Space and Healthy Communities Bond passed by voters in 2014.
All press are invited to the November 29 opening event at 9:30 am, and will have the opportunity to take a tour of the exhibit, and speak with Dr. Jeremy Goodman and others regarding the flora and fauna, outdoor interactive exhibits, and artwork that makes the Zoo’s newest addition so exciting.
