The White Mountains of New Hampshire is one of New England’s most popular scenic destinations. This spectacular mountain region is home to 17 legendary attractions, the northeast’s highest peak - Mt. Washington, 800,000 acres of magnificent mountain views and limitless outdoor recreation. The region offers tax-free shopping, championship golf courses, off-and-on road cycling and swimming in cool mountain streams. Step aboard our unique railroads for the ride of a lifetime, marvel at magnificent mountain vistas as you ascend to the summit of Mt. Washington, spend time flying high above tree line on our aerial chair rides and ziplines, and stroll along wooden boardwalks that take you within touching distance of waterfalls. There are hundreds of camping and lodging opportunities including grand hotels, resorts, cabins and campsites by the river or on the mountainside, and quaint inns.
Whether your journey to the White Mountains takes you to several attractions or natural wonders, you will want to spend some time exploring the White Mountains Trail where you will discover spectacular scenery, covered bridges, picturesque towns and villages, and friendly people. This 100-mile loop tour, designated a National Scenic Byway, winds through sections of the 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest, the renowned Kancamagus Highway, Franconia Notch State Park and Crawford Notch. The White Mountains Trail is known for its natural splendor, cultural richness, historical charm and stimulating recreation-as well as some of the most beautiful scenery in the eastern United States.
