New Hampshire's Living Shores Aquarium to reopen soon
|
The reopening of Living Shores Aquarium in Glen, New Hampshire, has been set for May 8. The aquarium will operate every weekend through June and implement safety precautions, including wearing of face coverings, social distancing, online reservations and limited capacity.

Garbarino sends bipartisan letter to SBA urging grant access for Amusement Parks
|
Today, Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02) was joined by Reps. Tom Suozzi (NY-03), Chris Jacobs (NY-27), Joseph Morelle (NY-25), Jim Hagedorn (MN-01), and Lee Zeldin (NY-01) in calling on U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabel Guzman to expand Shutter Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program eligibility to amusement parks.
“The amusement parks industry on Long Island is a main driver of travel and tourism, which has been devastated by COVID-19,” said Rep. Garbarino. “By expanding access to the SVOG program to amusement parks across the country, this funding would save thousands of jobs, revitalize local economies, and protect the small business that have become cultural institutions in their communities.”

Standard Amusements to take over Playland in New York

The Westchester County Board of Legislators approved an amended contract Monday allowing Standard Amusements to take over the day-to-day management of Playland amusement park in Rye, New York, starting Dec. 1. Under the deal, the company must invest $35 million in improvements to the park, maintain historical rides, such as "Ye Old Mill" and the "Dragon Coaster," and may replace non-historic attractions pending approval by the county.

Why Reopening Ceremonies Are So Important in New York Right Now

When Coney Island reopened this month after more than a year of sickness, death and unemployment, officials wanted to make sure the ceremony hit the right tone: one of joy, but also of respect and gratitude.
“We know that this wouldn’t be possible without the frontline heroes that helped save countless lives and continue to help our community heal through the pandemic,” said Alessandro Zamperla, the president and chief executive of Central Amusement International, which owns Luna Park.
To that end, the first passengers to ride the Cyclone, the 90-year-plus wooden roller coaster there, would be 100 essential workers from nearby Coney Island Hospital, selected from a raffle.
